Cara comes from a big working-class family. She grew up with two brothers and a sister. Since her teens, she joined getting an education with participation in numerous theater productions. At the age of 19, she completed her education at Columbia University as an extramural student.

Mrs. Buono moved her way from the theater stage to television in the early 1990s. She gained wide popularity a little later, after participation in the hour-long drama film “Abby, My Love”, based on the book of Lee Hadley and Ann Irwin. That was a complex role for the young Cara, who had to portray the girl, molested by her father. But the actress managed to show all the aspects of her heroine’s feeling and her efforts paid off. She got her first screen award – Emmy – for the talented play in the film.

After that Cara’s career appeared in the slow phase. She played in many movies and TV series mostly as a supportive actress. But in 2016 she became in the center of public attention again – as Mrs. Wheeler from “Stranger Things”. Now Cara is a reputable TV star with a busy schedule, who balances her life between making a career and caring about her family.
