She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. After graduation from school, she entered Loyola University Chicago, where Lori majored in communications. She started her career as a writer. Lori occasionally posted articles in “The Chicago Tribune”. In the early 1990s, she invented an earrings organizer – the jewelry box, which contained the antitarnish cabinet for golden and silver jewelry. She started selling her products through the QVC network. Soon Lori got the nickname “The Queen of QVC” after the success of her show “Clever & Unique Creations by Lori Greiner”, broadcasted through this network.
